Name:Kasha Vigi
is not just another bald breaks producer/DJ. First off he is the son
of a highly regarded singer who's sung with everyone from Shakatak
to The Art Of Noise - so he's got the funk in his blood. Secondly,
he set dancefloors alight with his (and then-partner Flip's) huge
Drum n Bass-sampling house/breaks crossbreed "Freq Frequency"
- probably the earliest example of 'dirty house' - as featured on
Adam Freeland's Tectonics album and in the boxes of pretty
much every breaks Dj known to man. After the follow-up, the monstrous
"Subsonic" named after the seminal breaks night in Cambridge
(with Marcus B), he and Flip split. Now working with new partner,
Zero from the Bad Sneakers Sound System, Vigi has been perfecting
the art of digital recording at College and although technically he
is still studying the new duo are already way ahead in the production
stakes. Their first collaboration "Others" is one of the
key tracks on Rennie Pilgrem's Tribalizm album gaining much
support from James Lavelle, Plump DJs, Freq Nasty, Dominic B, Seb
Fontaine and Craig Richards, B.L.I.M. and Meat Katie. "Ultra-funk"
is another big sounding tune with crisp beats and driving basslines.
Like "Others" this was produced entirely within the digital
domain (no mixing desk, outboard gear, etc.) but it still has plenty
of funk (hence the name). Indeed, the rhythm, unlike most breakbeat
tracks bizarrely, controls the AA side which is a devastating 'Latina
Beats' workout. A mix which is deliciously augmented by Nectarious
on percussion - a track to spice-up any mix no end. Vigi and Zero
are still heavily in involved with the Cambridge party scene and putting
on more than the occasional all nighter alongside residencies at 'Motion'
and 'Subsonic' at the Kambar, 'Flawless' at The Road Menders, Northampton
and dates across the UK and Europe.
